Gainsborough Square is a public green in Lockleaze, Bristol. The Council is planning to spend up to £2.5 million improving the square over the next few years.
To help build public awareness around the ambitions and needs of local residents a simple ramp and stage was constructed from straw bales, timber and rope. The placement of the project allowed the public to encounter it within the unfolding landscape works, raising awareness in the activity and the Council’s work in the area.
Over the weekend while photographing the straw ramp structure, I got to know some of the local youths, who were extremely keen to show me their best tricks and stunts. I loved how energetic they all were and how important it was to them that I captured their antics on camera.
Why wouldn’t a pile of straw make you want to build forts and hurl yourself through the air!
